Jean Patou (1887-1936), designer, creator and hedonist was born in Normandy, France. The family business helped him reveal his talents as from 1907 he started working with his uncle in the fur business. In 1912 he moved to Paris and opened a small tailoring atelier Maison Parry. In 1914 he sold his entire collection to an American buyer. The First World War disrupted his career as in 1915 he served as a military captain at the Dardanelles front. After the war, in 1919, he reopened his boutique, this time under his own name.
JOY was created with great care, just like the most expensive Haute-Cotture dress, and therefore it was extraordinary and timeless. It was presented by Jean Patou as "the most expensive perfume in the world" precisely at the time of the Great Depression in 1929, when the luxury fashion market collapsed and the house of Jean Patou could survive only through perfumes. . JOY is created of rare flowers in a unique concentration of 10600 jasmine flowers and 28 dozen roses that adorn the exceptional heart of this perfume. Over time JOY achieves huge success and becomes the second best-selling perfume of all time (the first bestseller is the legendary Chanel N ° 5). Intense and succulent with a seductive floral composition, JOY was created by Henri Alméras, who made its top notes irresistibly delicious. The composition begins with fragrant tuberose jilt, succulent rose, ylang-ylang flower, aldehydes, sweet and appetizing pear and green notes. The heart beats passionately in pure and sweetly fresh jasmine notes, seductive and balsamic spicy and darkened iris roots. The base smells of sensual musk, warm and milky sandalwood, with light tones of musky civet. The bottle, with simple and straight lines with a gold thread at the neck, was designed by architect Louis Süe in 30 ml, 50 ml and 100 ml formats for the Eau de Parfume and in 30 ml and 50 ml formats for the Eau de Toilette. As for its simplicity, the bottle leaves an impression of luxury and suggests that its content is one of the best perfumes in the world. In 1932 Jean Patou designed a small black and red bottle in which this perfume is also presented.
Top notes are Bulgarian rose, ylang-ylang and tuberose; middle notes are jasmine and may rose; base notes are musk and sandalwood.
